A friend of mine who watches wrestling told me a lot about Randy's brother "The Genius" Lanny Poffo, who's 'gimmick' was writing poetry. I'm sad that he hasn't done any rapping of his own yet (though he does write books).

The ultimate warrior was the greatest wrestler ever!!

In terms of Squash Matches, yes...

Ultimate Warrior (now his actual name, seriously) now does knife-based art, last I remember. He has a website showcasing it somewhere.

Jim Hellwig is actually a lot smarter than most people give him credit for. He feels his time in pro wrestling was not a positive one for him, and has done all he can to distance himself from the industry. He changed his name to Warrior so that the WWE couldn't make another Warrior and to protect his own Intellectual Property rights on the character (and honestly I think he went overboard with the name change, but was well within his rights to claim IP ownership of the character he created). He's also a very good artist, although listening to his pro wrestling promos you wouldn't think that. But it's true, his comic books are pretty well done. Just like Jerry Lawler and the children's books he does art for (most of them written by Mick Foley) some people have talents that you wouldn't expect based on their public personas. I have a lot of respect for pro wrestlers. It's not easy to do. Also, I hate it when they are called actors. They are not actors, they are performance artists. It's a stage, just like in an auditorium or amusement park, they are telling a story through a visual medium. OF course it's fake and not real, everyone knows that, but that doesn't make it any less interesting a story, since a good pro wrestler can get the character, the conflict, and the resolution across in a satisfying manner like a skilled acrobat, figure skater, or magician can tell a story in much the same way.

Well, I've seen his comic book, so I have my doubts. I can't speak about his other art, though...

The best line was when Randy said "I had a feature role in Spider-Man" when comparing his movie career to Hogans. I don't think Bonesaw McGraw, while being completely awesome, is better than Thunderlips. Hogan even said he was well aware of how jealous Savage was of him, and Hogan went out of his way to never confront the guy. Savage really went off the deep end after the death of Elizabeth, and never recovered mentally. Kind of tragic really.

Though, people are more likely to recognize the name "Bonesaw" than "Thunderlips"...

I wonder...that would make a good topic of discussion among people with too much time on their hands.

Hey Mr Mendo. I can tell by your expression that you're greatly impressed with Randy's rap, but since I'm really not a connoisseur of rap music, it would have been really nice if you tried to explain why you liked it. You did it with Shaq, why not Randy?

Yeah, "words fail me" was kind of a weak response... Kind of left the review part out of the review! Also wasn't good that the volume level between Mendo and the Savage clips were so different. Kept having to turn up the computer volume to hear Mendo and then get the house blasted with sound.

I'd like to think that the comparison between how bad he used to be, and what the later song sounded like did a pretty good job of illustrating how greatly he improved in the interim. Still, that's just me. I'll do better next time. :-)

A comparison would likely work for someone that was much smarter, and more cultured than me. But as I mentioned, I'm not a rap music connoisseur; so I can't pick out the details that makes one better than the other.I'm sure your point got through to Rap fans , but since I very ignorant of the genre, you went way over my head.
12/8/2012 3:23:56 AM
I'll keep that in mind...

Good times, man. :-)
