Cheapus reviews Serenity, the follow-up movie to Firefly, Joss Whedon's low-rated sci-fi western series that was quickly canceled. In the movie, the crew of Serenity, captained by Mal Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), try to evade an assassin (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who's out to neutralize River (Summer Glau) because she may have used her psychic abilities to learn secrets about the Alliance. It was a huge gamble making a big budget film based on a failed TV show. Did it pay off? Well... you probably already know the answer to that, but Cheapus will tell you anyway!
6 things to love about From Russia with Love (1964)
“If you held a gun to my head and forced me to pick the Bond movie that rises to the top, I would have to say it’s From Russia with Love.”Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
“‘More of the same’, though I’d still say it was better overall than the previous Avengers movie and trumps it on most levels.”Jupiter Ascending (2015): a recap (part 5): Caine is the perfect hunting (and dancing) machine
In which we learn the true origins of the human race, as well as Caine Wise’s tragic backstory, which is uncannily similar to a certain legendary bouncer. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 suit makes me irrationally happy
“Clips and trailers for the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2 started dropping, and I continued to play it cool, when on the inside I was crying tears of pure joy.”Secret Avengers is what Agents of SHIELD should have been
“It feels distinctly like the beginning; that one day, the name Ales Kot will be associated with something huge and fantastic, and we’ll look back at early issues of Secret Avengers and recall how we knew he was destined for greatness all along.”Dressed to Kill (1980), and separating the art from transphobia
“It’s an enrapturing, pulse-pounding film that elevates trashy, sensationalistic material to an artistic expression of primal sensuality. It’s also one of the most nakedly transphobic films ever made.”
