Cheapus reviews Serenity, the follow-up movie to Firefly, Joss Whedon's low-rated sci-fi western series that was quickly canceled. In the movie, the crew of Serenity, captained by Mal Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), try to evade an assassin (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who's out to neutralize River (Summer Glau) because she may have used her psychic abilities to learn secrets about the Alliance. It was a huge gamble making a big budget film based on a failed TV show. Did it pay off? Well... you probably already know the answer to that, but Cheapus will tell you anyway!
The A-Team (2010)
“Last summer saw the release of the big budget adaptation of the ‘80s cheese ball television classic The A-Team. And it isn’t.
“When I finished watching Clerks, I wanted to watch all of Smith’s movies. When I finished watching Mallrats, I wanted to make my own movies.”The Amazing Spider-Man 2 suit makes me irrationally happy
“Clips and trailers for the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2 started dropping, and I continued to play it cool, when on the inside I was crying tears of pure joy.”The Last Airbender (2010)
“The worst M. Night Shyamalan movie yet. And damn, is that saying something.”Firefly fans: It’s time to forgive Fox
“As much as Firefly fans rail against Fox, it’s extremely unlikely the show would have lasted any longer (or even been picked up at all) by any of the other major networks back in 2002. It really is an unfortunate case of sci-fi fans biting the hand that feeds them.”Rocket Raccoon, Iron Fist & the new comic book auteurs
“For the most part, it seems Corporate likes keeping their talents easily labeled and given clearly-defined jobs these days. Which is why two books (one currently being published, one coming pretty soon) caught my attention.”
