Cheapus reviews Serenity, the follow-up movie to Firefly, Joss Whedon's low-rated sci-fi western series that was quickly canceled. In the movie, the crew of Serenity, captained by Mal Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), try to evade an assassin (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who's out to neutralize River (Summer Glau) because she may have used her psychic abilities to learn secrets about the Alliance. It was a huge gamble making a big budget film based on a failed TV show. Did it pay off? Well... you probably already know the answer to that, but Cheapus will tell you anyway!
Aeon Flux (2005)
“I guess they were going for the ‘making simple things as cryptic as possible’ motif of the series, not realizing that it didn’t really work all that well on the show, either.”Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)
“The only way I can explain the following scenes is that someone sat back and thought to themselves, ‘You know what this film is missing, aside from a coherent plot, convincing threat, steady tone and Megatron? Dick jokes and gay jokes. That’s what we need!’”The Cabin in the Woods (2012): A loving hate letter to horror
“It’s really amusing to watch each character get slowly dumbed down before our eyes. It’s like watching the history of slasher films itself, as each sequel becomes stupider, more clichéd, and less human and enjoyable.”Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
“‘More of the same’, though I’d still say it was better overall than the previous Avengers movie and trumps it on most levels.”The Amazing Spider-Man 2 suit makes me irrationally happy
“Clips and trailers for the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2 started dropping, and I continued to play it cool, when on the inside I was crying tears of pure joy.”Salt (2010)
“The whole thing comes off like a highlight reel of action set pieces until we’re well into the final stretch of the movie. ”
