I mean, sure I laughed at all the "kill Barney" stuff back when I was in middle school, but at least we were only talking about killing a fictional character.Also, Lauren Faust has made some good stuff. Foster's Home alone absolves her of all ill associated with My Little Pony.

see, this is the thing. you say, oh, its fun, its just a show, its just for entertainment. So what if its for kids if I like it? What you don't understand is that it being "for" kids should make it not worthwhile for an adult, because kids aren't capable of understanding complex concepts and otherwise lack the perspective to appreciate subtlety. When you publicly espouse your appreciation of a child's entertainment, you also publicly state that you have the mind of a child. There is no objective way for this to be a good thing. If you are a capable person you are expected to enrich yourself, not regress, and should by all rights have put aside childish entertainment in pursuit of something more challenging; the consequence for not doing so is the justified loss of the respect of your peers. To state that you aren't a capable person is obviously undesirable, thus the only way you could conceivably both enjoy children's entertainment and also not suffer the scorn of your peers is to surround yourself with only peers who would debase their own minds with you. The forums usually are a great place for doing just that, but no amount of anti-trolling rules will change the fact that your laughable consumption of a children's television show only exposes your sub-mundane lack of complexity, presumably self-inflicted, and utterly unworthy of pity or acceptance in any form. Being an adult means understanding that adults and children aren't as different as some people would like to believe.I don't know about you, but I can remember what it was like to be a child. I wasn't stupid, or mindless, or subnormal in any way. I was thoughtful, intelligent, and mature. Hell, I was more adult than most so-called adults that I knew. I feel sorry for you, because it doesn't sound like you have enough friends to know what an "adult" is actually like, or have seen enough entertainment to know what "enriching" yourself actually is. I'm not a fan of My Little Pony, but there are other cartoons I enjoy as a cartoonist myself, and in my 28 years of life I've never met a single adult who didn't like something on Cartoon Network, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Pixar Films or video games. Cartoons are made BY adults, and if you ask most of their writers, a majority of them take their jobs seriously and write stories with the same effort they would to entertain people of any age, and what exactly do you think constitutes "adult" entertainment? I enjoy some dramas and sitcoms, but I don't find their writing to be any more sophisticated than dozens of "kid's" shows I can think of, and in fact, many of them share the same writers. Oftentimes the only difference is literally just the addition of sexual themes, violence or swearing. Do you know how many PG-13 and R-rated films are only rated as such for less than a single minute of their footage? Often it gets tacked on in the end to avoid a "G" rating entirely because producers fear that adults prefer to go to films with "adult" ratings, which is a shame, because it clearly has no bearing on actual writing quality.You could walk into any group of people of any age and find that MOST of them enjoy something marketed largely to kids. It should if anything be far more acceptable than watching shlock like Jersey Shore, Ancient Aliens or the so-called "news."You are, in fact, the minority here - you're the one who would have trouble finding peers who feel even remotely like yourself.

Huh, having this introduced to me as "harsh review of the show", and as someone who rather enjoys the show myself, I thought...a good portion of the review was entirely agreeable. Given the online saturation it's hard not to say it's overhyped a bit. Yeah, screw the creepy fans who go on about RD being a lesbian or the pony porn or any of that shit. Yes, this was a subpar episode. Yeah, a starting point of "children's TV show episode based on Native American conflicts" is pretty stupid. But you also seem to give the show a lot of credit in the process. *shrug*I'm sincerely curious since you mentioned this being towards the bottom in terms of quality (I agree!), even if you're not huge on the show, what episode would you say ranks towards the top?

The episode's message was that refusing to believe in something because you can't see it is just as much an act of blind faith as believing in something you have no evidence to support. To be fair, the sky isn't 'blue', it only 'looks blue', to most people, at any rate; not everyone sees colors the same. At times the sky may be red, pink, purple, grey, or various other shades, for many reasons that are basically obvious. Composed largely of 'clear' gasses, the 'sky' itself has no inherent 'color'. While there may not be any study 'proving' that it is blue (not only because 'it' isn't, but because such 'proof' could only be subjective, anyway), there are many studies 'proving' that the reflection of light through the gasses in our atmosphere cause the sky to appear 'blue' to most people, at most times, barring atmospheric interference and depending on the position of the sun relative to your general location.But, that's just my pseudo-intellectualizing, over here.

See, I've found the second season to be, on average, even worse than the first season. Yeah, there haven't been any episodes quite as bad as this one (yet...), but it's still full of lazy writing, half-baked morals, and hamfisted attempts to pander to the adult audience.It's probably worth noting that I hated Q, so listening to John de Lancie smarm his way through one more round of "I'm exactly as omnipotent as the writers need me to be" didn't exactly bring back fond memories.

That's entirely likely. Equestria seems to be somewhat behind the times in terms of human-er, pony rights. Their leader is an actual goddess who always seems to be benevolent, until you realize most of the ponies are scared to death of her. In addition to imprisoning her enemies in stone when they anger her, it's heavily implied that she's fond of exiling anyone who doesn't fit in to her perfect society to a place called the Everfree Forest, a jungle full of deadly monsters and poisonous plants.To put it simply, it's entirely likely the reason Equestria looks like a utopia of happiness and friendship is for the same reason all brutal dictatorships look like a utopia from the outside: anyone who doesn't fit in...shall we say..."goes away."

I was planning to address this as a video of my own at some point, but I might as well bring the point across now. What I really like about this show is, the prior yeas that has been girl shows aimed at girls, but I always got the sense it was written by adult men who writes what they "think" girls likes. And all these shows are ever about is the main characters talking about. "Social status." "Boys" and "Clothes."Over and over and over and over and over and ARGH! Even if the three main characters a super spies! They will ALWAYS in every single episode talk about this stuff, and it's freaking annoying! According to girls television you are not good enough if you are not super hot, likes and care about this stuff. The new my little pony show, though being aimed for girls has NONE of that!Girl characters with actual personality which is each widely DIFFERENT! and it doesn't even play that big a part whether they are girls or boys really, which is GLORIUS! The only character who falls into the category of what I would have been used to in girl shows is Rarity, but it works here because A; she's the only one so that makes her a distinctive character B; she's actually not nearly as shallow as what I usually get, plus her personality also often get the flaws exposed, some-thing which rarely happens other places. And well, I personally like this show, it's fun, entertaining, characters distinctive and even rich, it's not pretentious e but pretty darn self aware. Maybe it's not that deep or meaningful, but it is one of the best things currently running in kids television if you ask me.

And honestly it makes me happy, and I hope in some-way or another this will be a trend setter for how to write females in the future.Way to often when you write a show, whether it it's children or what-ever, you'll often have the main cast which is boys and then "The female." whom is "The female." before she's a character, which is often obvious. Here they are characters first and females lies not even second, but nine or ten down the line. And that is how it's done, how it should be done in also hollywood movies and so ford, but just isn't.

I find Rarity interesting for another reason. As was pointed out to me, in a typical "for girls" show or movie, Rarity is the kind who would be the villain. You know, she'd be the pretty mean girl who only cares about her looks and social status. While she does retain a part of that, she still manages to be a good guy because she knows when to sacrifice those things for the good of others.

A good theory, but 2 probelms:1) the writer IS a woman.2) At least 3 of the main characters don't care at all about fashion or looks. Ranbow dash openly hates dress-up, Applejack is a country dirt girl at heart who hates the whole girly thing, and Twilight looked totally annoyed when Rairty tries to dress her up. This is shown in many episodes. (my kids like it, I'm not a bronie though like Ryan, I admit it has a lot of cute moments)

Possibly my least favorite episode of the series, though i personally liked feeling pinkie keen, and the message of that episode wasn't about religion at all, faust herself said it was a message that could apply to anything.but anyways, the "hype" isn't so much centered around how good the show is. I mean, I'm someone who is just obsessed with the show (though it doesn't interfere with my responsibilities), and even i will tell you the show isn't standout amazing. The Walking Dead has far more production and entertainment value, but i enjoy MLP more than i enjoy that.It's really the fandom that gets people excited, cause there is just this huge group of people we can share this fun, cute program with and just share a common interest. not to mention the many talented artists and musicians that create copious amounts of content based on the show.not to mention the show is just such a fresh breath of air compared to most other programming on TV nowadays.

Here in the UK we have a well-respected and award-winning media commentary/satire show called Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe - the writing, delivery and pitch-perfect editing of Saturday Morning Glory gives our esteemed Mr Brooker more than a run for his money, and he has the might of the BBC behind him. And you genuinely came across as having thoroughly researched the show and its history, which was very impressive. Looking forward to your next show!

I knew this was coming, but the Agony Booth did a better job at pointing out flaws than the ponygoons cause...well...most of the time people who are not rabid fans do a better job reviewing. I would ask for more episodes, but I fear the sanity of Ryan and his followers.

This is the first time I've seen a single frame of footage from this show, although I've been aware of the "Brony" movement for a while now (and have seen a large amount of animated forum avatars inspired by the show). I dunno...the animation looks stylish enough, but I can't get why so many adult males are so INSISTENT about everyone else loving the show as much as they do.

I don't know what makes you more brave in my eyes: that you watched all MLP:FiM episodes or that you're risking your neck by saying negative things about this show.Although I think the beligerent followers -the chans- are losing their interest in the show: My Little Pony General Threads are now less frequent.Anyway, great recap.

Nah, the General Thread (at least on /co/) is consistent and continuing, though unless you're looking for it, or using the tracker, it's easier to miss when it hits bump post limit and falls off page 0 for a while. Aside from that time when the threads were banned for a day or so, and the times 4chan itself has gone offline, there's been a more-or-less unbroken string of at least one General Thread being up at all times going back to October 2010. And since they kept those threads going even through the five months of no new episodes, plus season 2 being better in many respects than season 1, I'm not sure I see that fading soon either. But keep in mind that, it being a -chan and all, it's liable to give one exaggerated ideas of what the rest of the people who watch the show are like.
