VIDEO: Scrub Me Mama with a Boogie Beat (1941)

After a long absence, Mendo returns with a brief review of the first ever music video, and all its unspeakable racism! It’s not great, to be honest.

The double standard is that she is from Harlem (ie. the civilized North) and the rest are from the South.

Because some Blacks are less Black than others.

      Well, that’s just silly!

Much like the rest of the cartoon.

I like to think we didn’t need political correctness to get rid of this sort of thing, just good taste.

    • MichaelANovelli

Surely! Also, what are we talking about?

depicting people of a particular ethnicity as being more closely related to animals than other humans

        • MichaelANovelli

Ah, OK. I made this like a month ago, so I don’t remember everything I said. 🙂

Wasn’t responding to anything in particular, just an observation

          • MichaelANovelli

            Well, your observation is correct!

So….someone requests a Censored Eleven. And you’re totally cool with doing that. But you say you can’t, because you just don’t have a high-enough quality…source-thingee from which to work. High-enough quality source-thingees being hard to come by. They don’t just come in the mail. Not every day, at least.

I’m certain we all here trust you that it’s only because you don’t have that source-thingee that you didn’t answer that request. And surely try your best to make a good review of it, of course. Because it could be a totally awesome review. I’m sure that thing (Censored Eleven? Or was it called something else, it’s been such a long time…) is so rich with possibilities. You might not even have to push it so hard; you could take a backseat and let the crazy material sell itself, – much as you did here, I might add – using only so much commentary as you wanted to add. Just using your platform to expose new people to that source-thingee could alone be pretty fun, maybe even sell your viewers on tracking down a copy of the source-thingee for themselves (assuming it’s not hard-to-find, and most things aren’t), so they could enjoy something they never knew existed. Maybe as if that was half the point behind requesting it.

But I’ve gone wildly off-topic by now. You didn’t have the source-thingee. We get it. They don’t just fall out of the sky. Or come in the mail. Too often.
