Lady Breastfeeds Baby, Internet Freaks Out
Karlesha Thurman’s baby was hungry. Karlesha was graduating from Cal State Long Beach, where she studied accounting. Karlesha did what mothers have done since motherhood began: she fed the kid from her own boob. Her friend snapped a photo, which Karlesha posted on a breastfeeding forum on Facebook AND SUDDENLY EVERYONE WENT INSANE.
Thurman was quickly inundated with comments from Twitter and Facebook users who thought it was “inappropriate” for her to breastfeed her child in the middle of a graduation ceremony. Some people suggested that she must be sexually promiscuous to be okay with displaying part of her breast.
“I personally have gotten nothing but positive feedback, but the people on Twitter are being very harsh towards the photo,” Thurman told ABC News.
Shitting on a nice lady who just got her college degree is fucking weaksauce. So she fed her baby in the time-honored and NATURAL tradition of mothers forever and ever. So she posted a picture in an online space devoted to the celebration of said custom. So fucking what? Like you didn’t feed from your momma’s booby, stupid Internet trolls (or maybe you didn’t and that’s why you so crazy).
I breastfed for a few months, and then my mom had to go back to work. Her workplace didn’t have anywhere private she could pump (I guess this is an important thing moms must do when they are working moms like my mom or Karlesha), so we switched to formula. I turned out FUCKING AMAZING, but maybe if I’d breastfed longer I’d be even better! Stronger! More powerful! Let’s see what the gubmint has to say on it, why don’t we?
Some research shows that breastfeeding can also reduce the risk of Type 1 diabetes, childhood leukemia, and atopic dermatitis (a type of skin rash) in babies. Breastfeeding has also been shown to lower the risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome).
And it promotes mother/infant bonding; it’s LIQUID GOLD deliciousness for your baby, crammed with all kinds of nutrients; and it can be really good for the mom’s health, as well.
So why exactly are we shaming this woman again?
Ohhhhhh because she dared show a part of herself that society has hypersexualized beyond its biological purpose as a food bag? Because she’s happy and proud and she’s a woman in control of her own choices?
Yup, that’s exactly it.
