Previously on Jane the Virgin: Jane's Crazy Cousin Catalina came into town and surprised her with an impromptu family reunion. Catalina is fun, cool, hip, and possibly evil since all long-lost relatives tend to be in telenovela land...
Previously on Jane the Virgin: Jane reached out to Alba's side of the family and now her crazy Catalina has showed up on her doorstep, ready for a family reunion? How do we know she's crazy? Long-lost relatives usually are in telenovela land...
Jane is no longer a virgin! Well, that's sort of old news compared to what's been going on with everyone else. New career changes: Rogelio is trying to become famous enough for a CW show which shouldn't be too hard since no one on the CW is truly famous...
Previously on Jane the Virgin: Jane had sex! She's no longer a virgin! Wonder if they're going to change the title of the show? Petra's evil twin sister Anezka is impersonating her...
I like that this episode doesn't bother with the Latin Lover Narrator flashback to Jane's childhood and how it relates thematically to her present day problems. She and Michael finally got the go-ahead to have sex and they're going to do it, dammit!
Xiomara crashes at Rogelio's, and in exchange for room and board, helps with his accent. It is sounding more American. Unfortunately, the American it sounds like is Matthew McConaughey, and this country doesn't need another one of those.
Previously on Jane the Virgin:
Jane and Michael got married! And we were about to lose “the Virgin” in the title, but then Michael got shot!
Why did he get shot? He realized that his perky police partner Susanna…
The big day is finally here! Jane is ready to marry Michael (and lose her v-card) but obstacles are in the way: she needs to change her thesis, Xiomara and Rogelio are fighting, and Rafael is secretly in love with her. Will Jane get to say 'I do'? Or will the hijinks in Telenovela Land keep her from walking down the aisle?
It's Baby Mateo's first birthday but there's too much drama in telenovela land to focus on the cute baby's day. Petra and Jane compete for the better plan to bring Derek to justice while Michael tries to put himself back on the Sin Rostro/Mutter case. Also, Rogelio's crew threatens to go on strike and ruin Jane's upcoming wedding.
Jane and Petra, our resident baby mamas, are at the center of the drama. Jane accuses Petra's sister of a crime while Rogelio tries to impress his girlfriend and Rafael's no-good brother reveals that he's no-good. No such thing as a Hallmark moment in telenovela land.
Everyone's getting fired up--or just plain fired. Jane and Michael face money troubles so Jane takes on a new side job to bring in some cash, which cuts into quality time with Mateo and creates a heated custody battle with Rafael. Meanwhile, Anezka and Xiomara compete for "Worst Employee" as they start new jobs.
Jane and Xiomara are still fighting, but that's not stopping Rogelio from coming up with a scheme to bring them back together. Petra's twin sabotages a deal and Mateo's first word causes conflict between Michael and Rafael. All these people need to save the drama for their mamas.
Jane and Michael celebrate their upcoming wedding with bachelor/ette parties. Jane wants a quiet night but her crazy mother kicks off the drama. Michael wants a wild night but has to keep things in check when Rogelio organizes a spa day. There's fights, hijinks, and mistakes made but it's okay: just blame it on the alcohol.
In the beginning, God created the drama of the Villanueva family. Jane and Michael are House Hunters, but the perfect place is too far away. Rogelio is going overboard with wedding planning, Alba is still being wooed by Bad Luck Pablo, and Petra is having a hard time being a mother. Who will be their savior in telenovela land?
Pablo, Alba's first love, is back in town and is spreading bad luck wherever he goes. Jane's future in laws declare they hate her, Rogelio is still kidnapped, Petra doesn't want to bond with her babies, and Rafael's half brother Derek is being mysterious. Wait, those things can't all be because of one man's curse? In telenoveland, they can be.
It's the motherload of telenovela tropes! Babies being born, hostages being held, a long-lost brother revealed, dramatic heart to heart conversations about love and sex and...accusations of plagiarism? Jane the Virgin runs down every big telenovela trope as Petra finally gives birth.
Everyone on "Jane Virgin" is wrapped in their own little bubble. Jane is so in love with Michael that she can't see Rafael is hurt. Xiomara can't see Rogelio is still hoping she'll change her mind about kids while Rogelio doesn't notice that there is something strange about his new assistant. Time to burst those bubbles, "Jane" cast!
Jane goes on a date with the hunky Professor Chavez, Xiomara contemplates freezing her eggs to make Rogelio happy, Michael makes one last play to catch Sin Rostro and Mutter. In telenovela land, you better use what you got if you want to gain everything. Or in Jane's case, lose something very important.
Lines are being crossed everywhere!
