Huh? Didn’t realize that violent French films were a thing now, I remember Alexandre Aja talking about there not really being a horror film scene in France when he started, I gotta check those out.

He pretty much started the new french extreme in 2003 but it took off in 2007. They are some of the most hardcore films out there. Not as violent as something like Murder Set Pieces but way more believable. That was what sets them apart in my opinion. They manage to push them just far enough to still be realistic without going into the “oh that’s just ridiculous” territory.

  • Kind of a tonal roller coaster as the violence shifts from “cartoon”, then to “cheesy”, then just shy of “I spit on your grave”.

Yeah, I wanted to have a nice mix.

One I’d add might be “Mutant Girls squad”, made by the same people as Tokyo Gore Police.

Just as over the top, and when one of the characters has a literal “ass chainsaw” and the other 2 full-sized Katana blades that emerge from her breasts, and that’s the TAMEST parts of the movie, you’ve got a winner!

There’s also RoboGeisha, which was directed by one of the people responsible for Mutant Girls Squad. That one has retractable katanas in the armpits (and a scene where a geisha transforms into a tank, which is neither here nor there but still insanely awesome)

These movies are just throwing everything and the kitchen sink at the audience. Love it.

Also, Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge. Love these movies, they are so ridiculous.

And you didn’t even bring up the Zombie Lawnmower Apocalypse!

Well, gotta leave something as a surprise!
