Thurston Moore cheated on Kim Gordon for years, and somehow it’s Jezebel’s fault
Remember when Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon broke up after 27 years, which consequently resulted in the implosion of one of your favorite bands? Things happen, right? Then Moore admitted he’d been in a relationship with his current girlfriend for six years which was weird since he and Kim had only broken up two years ago.
Wait what? This made many people who could do basic math sad, because that meant Moore had been cheating on Kim for four years or so, and that is kinda lame. Look, we understand that sometimes things don’t work out, even longtime made-in-heaven rock marriages. But dude, if you want to be with another ladyfriend, sack up and leave your wife. Do not run a business and a band and a marriage with said wife for FOUR YEARS. Seriously, what’s the end game there? You hope you never get caught? You hope Kim Gordon says “hey baby, be free, do what you want, but Sonic Youth is forever”? NONE OF THESE THINGS WILL HAPPEN. Also, way to casually just drop in an interview that you were a cheatmonster.
“I’m in a really romantic place with [new girlfriend] Eva [Prinz]; we’ve kinda been a couple for close to six years. A lot of those years nobody was very aware of it except us. The cat’s been out of the bag a while now, that’s kinda where I’m at.”
Ummm, Thurston? Nobody was very aware BECAUSE THAT IS GENERALLY HOW CHEATING ON YOUR WIFE WORKS.
So Jezebel called Moore a dick over this, which we endorse because the whole thing was a dick move, and also pointed out that his new ladyfriend was also a cheater.
The timeline is also awkward from Thurston Moore’s girlfriend’s end. In 2009, well into when Moore and Prinz were allegedly already into their relationship, Prinz gave birth to the son of Dutch prince. So apparently Moore, a married guy, was getting it on with the pregnant girlfriend of another man and is now chatting about it with the press.
Being called out by Jezebel has apparently made Moore very sad, so he did what we all do, and took to the Facebooks to yell about it.
Jezebel is gender fascism. By not having any real critical facility to understand, in their case, men in relationship to women (presumably them) they opt to promote hate by imperialist blather. By couching it in feminism is a distinct lack of class, but i’m sure they’re having a bit of online fun and when they grow up maybe they’ll glean the complexities of real life and love.
Umwhut? Is there some sort of complexity of cheating on your wife that is just too impenetrable for the average feminist to understand? Also, it’s now imperialist to call someone out for not keeping their dick in their pants, especially when their wife is KIM FUCKING GORDON? Today, we are all imperialists.
Thankfully, we can be solidly pro-Kim post-breakup, because Kim Gordon remains kickass levels of awesome.
There is the painting, the memoir, an essay collection called Is It My Body? and occasional acting gigs. Echoing her ability to walk on both sides of the street musically, she’s appeared in art movies (Boarding Gate, I’m Not There, Last Days) and hit TV shows with “girl” in the title (Gossip Girl, Gilmore Girls, Girls). Does she feel compelled to stay busy? She shrugs. “One has to make money. That’s the main reason I did the book. I never thought I’d write a memoir, but people were asking me.”
One thing she didn’t intend to do was form a new band, but she started recording improvisations on cassette and sharing them with her friend Bill Nace and one thing led to another. Body/Head released their debut album, Coming Apart, last year. “I didn’t want to do anything I had to promote,” she says, laughing. “I mainly wanted to concentrate on doing art, but I do like performing.”
Meanwhile, Thurston gets pissy on Facebook. Team Kim “Kool Thing” Gordon For Life.
