Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987) (part 11 of 12)

Back over at the Daily Planet, Warfield tells Lacy that she’s now publisher [!] of the Planet. He walks her over to Perry White’s door, and it now has Lacy’s name on there. Lacy looks bummed out, though, possibly because of that whole “Superman might be dead” thing.

They enter the office and the first thing she notices is Superman’s cape on her desk. What?? Warfield casually says, “Oh, that? Somebody brought it in! We bought it, cheap!” [!!] Wow, guys, that’s quite a scathing indictment of soulless big business. I even hate to ruin the genius of it, but are they honestly trying to convince us that someone found Superman’s cape—which, presumably, is made from indestructible Kryptonian materials—and sold it for a modest price? Did somebody get lied to at the Antiques Roadshow? Were they told it was a “replica”?
