Star Trek (TAS) “Albatross” (part 1 of 4)
In this outing, we find, after a long, long establishing shot of the Enterprise flying through space, that Kirk and Co. are on the distant planet of Dramia dropping off medical supplies. Maybe it’s just me, but if the Dramians need the Federation to supply them with drugs, then I’d say they’re pretty screwed as a society. I dunno, maybe making drugs is against Dramian religion? Or… maybe it isn’t medicine they’re delivering? Hmm…
So Kirk, Spock, and Bones (one presumes the redshirt already died and was buried with honors) are saying their goodbyes.
I gotta admit, I appreciate the lengths the animators went through to make each Dramian unique. Head shapes, ears, noses, and clothes all look different. Different shades of ugly, that is.

Kirk says he hopes that the “medical assistance program” will strengthen relations between the Federation and star systems such as the Dramians’. Medical assistance. Riiight. I think I can now understand the Dramians’… dependence on Federation aid.
One of the Dramians announces that he has a warrant for the arrest of one of Kirk’s party.
Kirk says, “Warrant? Who?!” like he’s afraid that incident on Babel with the dead hooker he left in that motel room has finally caught up with him. Turns out the warrant is for McCoy and… Was that a sigh of relief I heard from Kirk? Nah, probably my imagination.
McCoy is being arrested for the wanton slaughter of hundreds of people on Dramia II, and the warrant has been cleared by the Federation. So Kirk’s superiors just let McCoy waltz into this? Wow, what a bunch of dicks. You’d think they would’ve made sure Bones knew what was waiting for him, and assigned him a JAG officer or something. What’s really strange is the expression Kirk has when he reads the bottom of the warrant.
Just what the hell is he looking at, anyway? For a guy who’s had women on a hundred worlds, and seen just about everything, it’s gotta be good.
Scotty responds to the news in typical Scots fashion, which means he’s offering to beam down with some of the lads to kick ass. Kirk realizes unleashing the engineer and the subsequent destruction of Dramia might be a case of overkill, and he restrains his Scotsman. Kirk reports that he and Spock are at the Hall of Justice. Awesome! I had no idea the animated series and Super Friends had a crossover ep—
Oh. Wrong Hall of Justice. Damn. Still, I think a crossover between TAS and other shows would have been awesome. Of course, they would have had to have been Filmation shows, like… uh… The Brady Kids.
Or… Archie’s Fun House…
…Or Sabrina, The Teenage Witch?
Um… Mission: Magic?
Man, cartoon series sucked during the Sev—
Yes! Yes, a crossover between TAS and Fat Albert would have ruled! Hey, hey, hey! I could see Spock jamming with the Fat Albert band!
…And jamming on the space lute the way he did… with…
You know what? Never mind. Bad idea. Pretend I didn’t even come up with it.
