Well what do you want for breakfast?
I got Egg, Spam, bacon and Spam.
Or spam, Egg, spam and bacon.
Or Spam, spam, spam, spam, with spam and spam, and egg and spam.

Ah yes, perhaps the most beloved and quoted yet not quite overused Python reference.

      • Sofie Liv

I think many of us forgets that the Pythons actually invented that word!

Some food company decided to invent Spam you can… in theory, eat. But first AFTER the pythons made Spam a thing.
And the enternet was first invented way later, so.. yeah.. the Pythons came first.

… You can never overuse Monty python!
NOBODY EXSPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION! this is a dead parrot, it’s stone dead! I want to be a lion tamer… but you’re just so boring. I’m a lumberjack and that’s okay! And now to some-thing compleately different.

And that’s not even beginning on the movies, I swear, everytime people bring up the abortion argument again, where apparently if you abort only a week after getting pregnant it’s murder.
I WILL put on. “Every sperm is saaaaacred, every sperm is good!”

Btw Jerry, I liked your video, good of you to use the Dragon Ball cosplay in the beginning, cosplaying rules and I don’t care what any-body says <_<

Oh, Sofie. You so crazy. Spam’s been around longer than that. It was a common war-time ration food. I suspect the Spam/Vikings sketch was partly inspired by how Britain kept food rationing around long after the war, and people’s distaste for it.

Unless your Hawaiian they love the stuff.

          • Sofie Liv

Well apparently I am just a stupid young Dane whom never had to deal with Spam..

I really thought it was first made AFTER the monty python sketch, that’s what my entire friend circle believes..

TO WIKIPEDIA! this mystery must be solved!

… Spam is only in theory eatable though.. it’s one of the most disgusting things in the world.

          • JD

no to bad if you grill it on hard wood charcoal. other wise deli meats are actually cheaper

It’s short for “spiced ham”, but barely qualified as a food by the time the company is done with it. Python’s just went with it because it was already a joke-food by then.

With all due respect, dear Sofie, I must offer some friendly contradiction.

First, the fact: as Muthsarah explained, Spam is older than all of us, Monty P. included. Interesting theory there why they used it, Muth.

Second, as much as I enjoy and grew up on them, and wanted to get into comedy myself because of them…

occasionally, oh yes, even Monty Python gets overused.

The older a performing act gets, especially in popular music, the more they’re reduced to just the “greatest hits”, and the whole remainder of that act’s career is completely passed by.

A great example is Queen. Awesome classic band, what’s not to love? Not sure how it is with Danish radio, but over here, when Queen is played on the radio you seldom get to hear the lesser-known but still great songs like the Flash Gordon Theme, Don’t Try Suicide, or Stone Cold Crazy. Instead it’s nearly always *always* We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, or Bohemian Rhapsody. Those are not inherently bad songs or don’t mean anything on a personal level–but over and over and over without fail or variation: We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, Bohemian Rhapsody.

We Will Rock You. We Are The Champions. Bohemian Rhapsody.

          Boys, Social Status, Clothes.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Python. And some fans love the expectation. But how many times can you listen about the Dead Parrot, Nudge Nudge, Lumberjack Song and still laugh the same like the first time? Giving the fans what they want or resting on status quo? Just a little variation of sketches and even lines, that’s all.

Got my own favorite bits too–Fresh Fruit Self Defense Class, 16 ton weight, the Whizzo candy assortment pack, flying sheep, little old granny streetgangs, Spanish Inquisition with the Comfy Chair, the Killer Cars, the four Yorkshiremen and their childhood poverty, the church bells (“they’re getting closer!”), the world’s deadliest joke, Arthur Putey, Dennis Moore, John Denver, architects and Masons, You Are The Actor, Blackmail, no time to lose (-Lautrec)…

Hey, one time my buddy and I even tried making our own version of the cheese shop bit!

And of course the four movies and a few songs–Sit On My Face, Never Be Rude To An Arab, I Bet You They Won’t Play This Song On The Radio, There’s Nothing Quite As Wonderful As Money, Every Sperm Is Sacred, I Like Chinese, most of the Contractual Obligation Album, I Got Two Legs

What was my point….? Oh yeah, less overuse–all time greats, they just need to mix things up more.

And getting back to Renegado–yeah, that cosplay, one of my favorite Jerry images. You really look like you’re two seconds away from kicking my ass.
