Why yes, the International Paruesis Association will! It’s the whole reason they exist. And they’re pissed (couldn’t resist!) that Rob Lowe is making fun of their members in his new DirecTV commercial.
You’ve seen the campaign: Rob Lowe lives a sexy awesome life because he has DirecTV while bizarre alternate universe versions of Rob Lowe are stuck with cable. In one spot, “Painfully Awkward Rob Lowe” can’t pee with other people in the room. And that shit ain’t funny, says I.P.A., which, ironically, is also an acronym for something that always makes me have to pee.
Hey, it’s not that the organization doesn’t have a sense of humor, says the CEO (I guess that makes him their “number one” guy?). “We don’t mind if people have a little fun with it,” he says, but, “In this particular case, the portrayal is making it look ridiculous, that this guy is a loser for having a problem.”
Rob Lowe responded on Twitter, “Son, there are those who really need to lighten up,” then added:
As for DirecTV, they’re not ready to flush all the money they spent on that spot down the toilet just yet. “The ads will continue to run for the vast majority of viewers who have told us they enjoy the spots and understand that, like all of our commercials, they take place in a fantasy world and are not based in reality,” a DirecTV spokesman told the AP.
Nice to see they’re not yellow.
