VIDEO: The Ring Two (2005)

It’s the debut of Mystery Madness, where your host Full of Questions examines the wonderful, the terrible, and the adequate of the movie mystery genre!

After you watch her review of The Ring Two, you’ll need to show it to someone else. Otherwise, she won’t be popular, and you’ll die in six days because she wants to one-up Samara.

I know; I somehow didn’t think of that when I was writing. It still doesn’t explain why a vintage syringe is in a 2005 hospital. However, this IS why I’m a lifeguard and not a doctor :D.

      Anyhow, thanks for watching.

Ah, I remember watching the Ring 2 after enjoying the first one. It didn’t hold me for very long, because when she looked at Jake’s body, and I saw that HORRIBLE make-up for his face… I couldn’t stop laughing.

    • FullofQuestions1

I started giggling when Samara popped out and said, “I found you.” It just made no sense at all that she wouldn’t have been able to. As someone on IMDB put it, “Did Samara lose her GPS?”

The part that made me laugh so hard that I had to stop the movie was when she turned into water at the end.

    A spirited debut, ma’am!

The Japanese movie isn’t pronounced Ringu, it’s pronounced “Lingu” because in Japan the Arr letter is pronounced as an Ell instead. I made the same mistake and had Japanese people correct me on it, although it’s funny because I was always called “Lussell” because they have a lot of trouble with that hard arr sound. But a good review and I look forward to seeing more of you to join a good group of contributors here :)

    • FullofQuestions1

I didn’t know that, and I’ve talked to a couple of Japanese speakers about the movie-good to know.

Re: the syringe, I saw that and wondered if the hospital treated many horses.

Any chance of you damping the acoustic of your recording space a bit? The reverb makes you hard to hear sometimes. Other than that, I’ll look forward to more reviews from you!

Hey and welcome to the booth!

Never saw this movie before, and I made the fatal mistake of watching Scary Movie four before I saw the first “The ring.” so all I could ever think about while watching was Scary movie….

Great video, man we have a solid woman cast on this site now. I am genuinely happy to have you here.

    • FullofQuestions1

Oh yay, you like my stuff! I’ve watched your show even before I knew that this site existed.
Scary Movie also somewhat ruined The Ring for me too.

      • Sofie Liv

        Really? hu Sweet!

Well, we are mostly all fans of each other here. And yep, I do like this video and your points. I’m really looking forward to see more from you :)

    This movie…makes…no sense.

Welcome to the Booth, FoQ! (Which in my head is pronounced ‘folk’, for some reason).

Also: “SAMARA, YOU MONSTER! You turned off the lights!”

I think you’ve covered a little too much in the movie, after a while the narrative begins to drag a little bit. But over all it was a solid review.

  • CBob

Those deer were noticeably CGI even in the low res video here, I shudder to think how transparently crappy they must look at full movie resolution.

    • FullofQuestions1

It gets even worse when you watch the DVD special features and find out how much work went into making that scene happen. Yeah, I watched the special features; it was interesting to hear the people who worked on various previous projects talk about them.

  • Olaf_the_Lofty

Thank you for the video! You gave me a good few laughs. I’ve never seen either of the “Ring” remakes, only the original Japanese one. I see what you meant about being derivative: as well as the original film I smelt “Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Rosemary’s Baby”, and I wouldn’t even call myself a horror aficionado. We are told that Samara/Sadako doesn’t like water, but apparently she doesn’t like electricity either, as she’s always meddling with it. Couldn’t someone manage to have horror in daylight? There’s a scene in M. R. James’ story “Casting the Runes” where a man goes to bed, puts his hand under the pillow, and finds in there “a mouth, with teeth, and hair about it…not the mouth of a human being.” Now THAT’s a scare that doesn’t need the lights to be out.

Did you get your nickname from the character “Hresh full of questions” in Robert Silverberg’s “At Winter’s End”? If not, please forgive my nerdy nosiness and accept my good wishes for further videos.

    • FullofQuestions1

Thanks for the comment and for the good wishes.

And no, the nickname was a lame joke from camp. I used to wear coathooks clamped to a baseball cap (I actually wore them for the first few videos before I decided to scrap them because they’re kind of stupid), and when people asked me why I was wearing hooks on my head, I’d tell them it was because I was full of questions.

And speaking of things being derived, I was pretty surprised when I saw this and found out that Orphan may have gotten its final line from it. Although, as I said, Orphan incorporated it better.

  • Chimaera

Oh, God – that deer attack! The unscary, obviously cut-and-paste CG deer…I laughed so hard at that, and at that “I’m not your *#$%@ mommy” line. The first “Ring” was quite good, and I liked the reversal of the expected “lay the ghost to rest” storyline; “Ring 2″…not so good.

  • Fantasy Mission Force

    I love this show.

Whatever happened to that girl anyway? Wasn’t she the one that got pregnant at 13?

    • FullofQuestions1

Daviegh Chase? Not that I can find- you might be thinking of a character she played.
However, fun fact, she was Chihiro in the dubbed Spirited Away- think about that the next time you look at Chihiro’s dark hair and at her parents making bad decisions.

  • 887tt

“whatever she just injected into herself lying around in a syringe” just as the clip of her filling the syringe with air plays. Kind of embarrassing.

  • Cecil_Trachenburg

Ok! Finally had a moment to check this out. Good job. Nice mix of pointing out what a disaster this was. They could have easily had a new franchise (of remakes) on their hands if they didn’t blow this up so spectacularly.

  • Concerned

Now I’m curious what happened to the (not Naomi Watts of course) woman who played the Ring girl here and in the earlier one. (And I’m too lazy to check IMDB right now). Did the typecasting-style from being associated with this movie force her to quit the industry? (Assuming that happened.) I would guess she would get sick of people walking up to her on the street just to say “Seven days” to her.

    • Concerned

      (I know I would.)

  • weirdmusician

i did see the part with the cgi deer, it was strange maybe they wanted cocoa puffs?

  • MalteseLizzieMcGee

    Uglies reference :)
I saw this in the cinema: it was hilarious. One girl in the back said something about the antlers being from horses, and the entire audiene yelled ‘DEER! Not horses!’.
