Rachel Maddow Thinks She Just Heard Chris Christie Drop Out Of 2016 Race. Or Maybe It Was Gas
Hey, kids, this looks like some real news, maybe: Did Chris Christie tip his hand in a speech Thursday that he is not going to run for president in 2016? He just mighta!
Here’s what Rachel Maddow noticed in a speech Christie gave in Manahawkin, New Jersey, while he was talking about Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts. Christie said,
“I want to assure the people of New Jersey one thing. I was born here, I was raised here, I’m raising my family here, and this is where I intend to spend the rest of my life.”
That’s pretty different language from Christie’s previous interviews, where he does the usual “no firm plans yet” gymnastics that we tend to hear from probably-gonna-run people who’ve just been reelected to a four-year term. Just after he was reelected, when George Stephanopoulous asked if he would serve all four years of his term, Christie replied, “Who knows?” But now he’s saying that the people of New Jersey elected him to serve eight years, not four-plus-something. Interesting!
Then again, maybe he just realized that he’s going to be busy testifying for the next four years… or he just won’t be able to get across the George Washington Bridge.
