There’s plenty of singers that work the poet/artist thing and sell themselves as just too ethereal and precious for this life (looking at you, Tori Amos) but that’s never been Smith’s thing. She’s raw and reckless and dug into the earth and in love with the world and her version of “Gloria” is one of the greatest songs of all time and I will probably fistfight you over that.
Also, too, she likes New Pope, and you know how much we like us some New Pope up in here.
