Overdrawn at the Memory Bank (1983) (part 5 of 12)
Back in Pantsuit Control, Tooby’s on the Compu-Desk insisting there’s no sign of Fingal’s body. Apollonia says she trusts Tooby, but asks him to go through his “input file” again. In other words, she trusts him in that “I don’t trust you one bit” sort of way. He agrees to do this, and for some reason he, too, is slurring like crazy. Maybe Tooby got into the maruba fruit himself.
Slavin is back on the big viewscreen. I’m not sure who he reminds me of more, Sideshow Bob or Screech from Saved by the Bell, but whoever he is, I don’t like him. Slavin says not to tell the news media anything.
This segues us into a TV “news report”, which consists of a picture floating within a picture of green grids and clouds/continents, with “Day 276” below it. Inside the inner picture, a reporter asks a guy in a shiny purple jacket with pointy shoulders if it’s true they lost a doppler. Shiny Purple Jacket has no comment.
A heavy synth chord takes us over to the Fat Novicorp Chairman watching this report in the boardroom. The reporters continue to badger Shiny Purple Jacket until he tells them again he has no comment. Of course, since he’s an Evil Capitalist and all, he’s a total prick about it. He even goes as far as to shove an old lady out of his way [!] as he walks off. Talk about subtlety.
