I Might Almost Watch ‘Nashville’ Tonight Since It Will Premiere A Song By Mary Gauthier (No I Won’t)
Luckily, Lisa loves Nashville, because we gave up on that shit about five eps in. Oh, is the husband shady? Oh, is Hayden Panettiere SUPER WAY FAR MORE INTERESTING than whitebread ol’ Connie Britton and her dumb husband and oh no will her hunky ex tour with her and snnnzzzzzzzzzz.
HOWEVER. The real schande about “Nashville” was that while the waitress or whoever (with her lovely lilting almost Partonesque voice) got the great Americana songs, and Panettiere (who can sing too!) also got some good tuneage, Britton was stuck rasping out absolute fucking pap. It’s one thing to have an average voice if you are writing your own amazing freaking songs — think young Leonard Cohen — and it’s another entirely if you are the Queen of Country based on sub-Shania Twain twaddle.
Now we get word that a Mary Gauthier song will premiere tonight (written with Gretchen Peters), and it is called “How You Learn To Live Alone,” and fuck we might just watch it but probably not.
Here’s “Mercy Now.”
Want some more? Of course you do. Here’s “I Drink.”
Now go buy her shit. And watch “Nashville,” if you want to be able to read Lisa’s recap tomorrow (so we guess you probably do).
