  • I have feeling towards Secretary similar to yours about Legally Blonde. Despite being essentially the story of Maggie Gyllenhall pursuing a life of being ordered about and spanked by James Spader she is really the character who finds her strength, takes control of her situation and drives the plot. At no point does the movie ever objectify her either, in fact one of my favourite things about the film is that it refuses to make any cheap jokes or mock the characters involved, presenting the idea of a BDSM rom-com with a sincerity and pathos that is really quite charming.

It also makes a very interesting contrast with Zach Snyder’s attempt at female empowerment Sucker Punch as contrasting ideas of feminism (although only one is any good). I’d recommend checking it out if you haven’t already.

How interesting! Because given the plot summary, damn, that sounds like it could very easily have been cheap exploitation-style crap.

Well, I still don’t think I want to watch Legally Blonde, but I still enjoyed this video. Thanks, SU! And colored me intrigued regarding Plus Points.

You won’t have to wait too much longer for the first episode! 😀

I gotta hand it to you Sursum: this is one of the most, if not *the* most, analytical reviews I’ve seen coming from you. I tried to watch this movie and it just ended up being a skimmer for me. I’m with Thomas here; excellent review of a movie I may not have the gumption to rewatch.

The same Jade of “Time Is Out Of Joint” fame? This should be interesting, this bees controversy…

The very same Jade from Time is Out of Joint, good eye! 🙂 She actually gets to talk and do stuff in this one.
