Larry Wilmore’s The Nightly Show takes on Bill Cosby (Update: So does Jay Leno)
The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore has arrived, and so far it’s pretty freakin’ awesome. Stephen Colbert is a tough act to follow, but Comedy Central seems to hit another home run.
His ten-minute rant on Bill Cosby is perfect–hilarious, informative, decisive, clear–right from the opening lines: “Tonightly, we’ll be talking Cosby. The question, ‘Did he do it?’ The answer will be yes.”
Later he adds: “Now, to be fair, the number is changing so quickly that there are conflicting reports on whether the total really is 34 or 35. But if the difference between 34 and 35 women matters to you, please fuck off forever.”
What a relief to see this show will live up to its predecessor. (At least, as best as we can tell after three episodes.)
UPDATE: Jay Leno is also being pretty blunt about Cosby’s guilt, saying:
“I don’t know why it’s so hard to believe women. You go to Saudi Arabia, you need two women to testify against a man. Here you need 25. […] Hannibal Buress started it. He’s a stand-up comedian and he made a flat-out statement that reverberated around the world. If that had been on television, it would have been edited. But because somebody would put the news out raw and unfiltered — which I think is fantastic — it was a great thing.”
