VIDEO: Hoodwinked! (2005)

It’s the official “true story” behind Little Red Riding Hood, brought to us by the Weinsteins, which in no way is riding off the success of Shrek!

I checked this out from the library and I though it was all right. It made me chuckle. The Wolf wearing the Lakers jersey was a fun inside joke, hearkening back to the Chevy Chase movie Fletch.

i still can’t believe this played in theaters. the animation is so terrible and cheap and has DTV / made for tv written all over it. someone must have connections.

To paraphrase: “This is what’s going to entertain us for a decade and a half?” Animated films of this ilk?
Using your own scale I’ll go with below an “Eh”.

Schlocky low-budget films? I was into 70s Kung Fu movies for a while in the 90s, my favorite being Ten Magnificent Killers.

Schlocky low budget film that I like? Easy…Planet of the Vampire Women (2011). Hilarious and totally self-aware.

Hmmmm. Schlocky low budget film? Does Mad Max count? It’s the greatest Ozploitation film ever made.

yeah, I always felt that way! Need to revisit that film again for the upcoming re-quel-make-boot (not sure which one, but George Miller’s directing!), it’s my cousin’s favorite movie of all time!

I kinda dig this film. I will say, tough I feel the same way about it that movie I do about “Iron Man”*–I like the set up and world building, but once it gets to the “fight the villain” part, I hit the ol’ fast forward button….

Shlocky, low-budget film I like… Would the original “Black Christmas” count?

  • StevePotter

Does Roger Corman’s “Little Shop of Horrors” count as schlocky? It’s certainly low-budget. Hell, they filmed that shit in two days. And it is *awesome*

Hey, this movie deserves kudos for helping bring the awesomeness that is schnitzel to the messes! As for shlocky, low-budget indies I like? Smoke Signals! I love it to death, but the script has some…interesting parts that don’t mesh with the rest of it. Also, I don’t think they intended to make a stoner flick out of it, but they did!

If you want to check out a schlocky, but fun animated short, check out “Kick Me,” which was included in THE FANTASTIC ANIMATION FESTIVAL. Oh, and lest we forget, there’s also “Bambi Vs. Godzilla” and the delightful “Lupo the Butcher,” both by Marv Newland.

    • tedzey71

Actually, “Lupo the Butcher” was credited to Danny Antonucci, the creator of “Ed, Edd, and Eddy.” But yeah, Marv produced the short from his production co, “International Rocketship.”

But yeah, that and “Bambi Meets Godzilla” are classics!
