Factory Girl (2006) (part 2 of 10)
And now, Edie is (sexily) getting ready for an art gathering, intercut with Warhol preparing himself for the same function. Those who rented the film on the basis of the DVD cover, and its none-too-subtly-implied promise of nudity (“SEXY. UNCUT. UNRATED.“) will be briefly disappointed as Edie removes her bra near a reflective window, only to foil potential peeking by doing this so the window slats just obscure her nipples. Luckily, there’s a compensatory shot of Guy Pearce’s unbelievably pale midriff a few seconds later, so it’s all good.
Next, Warhol is hanging around at the exhibition, bitching about how Jasper Johns is outselling him. Cue the first true laugh of the film: Mary-Kate Olsen is there, as one of a horde of glassy-eyed, self-consciously shallow characters. Goodness knows this role was a huge stretch for Mary-Kate.
Also making its very first appearance is Warhol’s preoccupation with the male genitals, as he remarks completely gratuitously on Mick Jagger’s “really big cock.” I suppose Warhol is GAY!!! in much the same way that this movie is set in THE 1960S!!!
