Deafula (1975) (part 6 of 10)

Cut to Steve Adams, pacing in a hallway in an office building. His dad the Preacher emerges from a door. Steve asks what the doctor said, and the Preacher says he has “bad news”. You mean… this movie is going to continue on for another hour?

He says, “I have a bad heart, and can’t give you blood anymore as always! Month to month!” Okay, so this is our first exposure to one of the very strange concepts at the core of this movie. It’ll be examined in more detail later, but for now, let it suffice to say that the Preacher donates his blood on a monthly basis to help his son.

Steve, looking pretty relaxed given the circumstances, asks how he can get blood now. From what I’ve seen of Deafula’s antics so far, he doesn’t seem to have much trouble getting blood, but hey, who’s keeping track?

The Preacher suggests they can “buy blood from donors”, even though he doesn’t really like the idea. No? So let me ask you this. How do you feel about your son putting on a big black cloak, a giant nose, and breaking into people’s homes at night to kill them? Do you find that idea more palatable? Please say yes.
