Come Read Some Sad Nice Time About Gay Sportsball Player Jason Collins Meeting Matthew Shepard’s Parents
Jason Collins, our current favorite gay pro sportsball player because Michael Sam is not yet pro, rocks jersey number 98 in honor of slain gay college student Matthew Shepard (who was killed that year) and did even before he came out. Now, his jersey is the best selling jersey in the NBA right now, so suck on that, Ben Shapiro.
In a bit of awfully sad nice time, because you should never have to meet the parents of a kid murdered just because he was gay, he got to meet Shepard’s parents when his new team, the Brooklyn Nets, played the Denver Nuggets yesterday.
“It was delightful. We were happy to finally have the opportunity to meet,” said Judy Shepard, who had spoken with Collins by phone last year after Collins announced he was gay and wore No. 98 because of her son.
Her husband said he hopes the day quickly comes when someone’s sexuality is a non-issue.
“There should be no publicity over this. It should be just an ordinary every day thing, like the military now,” he said. “That’s what we’re hoping for, soon.” […]
Collins said Shepard’s death had a deep effect on him.
“I was in college at the time when he was killed and of course it’s a tragedy what happened and I just hope that it inspires others to move forward,” Collins said.
He also gave the Shepards a number 98 jersey, but not a game worn one because ewwww. We know there are people that are into collecting things that sportsball people sweated in, but we assume that is not the Shepards’ thing, and it is certainly not our thing.
Collins’s 10-day contract with the Nets has basically been a lengthy audition, but it looks like the Nets will sign him for the rest of the season, to which we say yesssss because sportsball needs to get over its gay problem and quick. First the NBA, next the NFL, and then soon sportsball will be just one big dude-on-dude hot hot shower action scene, just like god intended.
