Thank Us Now, Because We’re Here To Help You Get Your Christmas-Themed Muppets Viewing On

Thanks to the miracle of the internet, the great giftiness that is YouTube, you can watch the entirety of 1987’s Muppet Family Christmas. Yes, it’s a heartwarming tale of Christmas and of piling every Muppet-related franchise — Muppets, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock — into one movie. What? No Dinosaurs characters? Guess that wasn’t around until 1991, so this movie is forgiven for the omission.

Now, this isn’t It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie from 2002, which is a thing we didn’t even know existed until just now.

Nor is it 1992’s The Muppet Christmas Carol, which we do know of and remember fondly and is also easy to distinguish because it has Scrooge.

We’ve always been big Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas people when it comes to Jim Henson Christmas films. No, we are not kidding. Not familiar? Get familiar. From 1977, it has adorable otters, jug band songs (hence the title!) and it’s also pretty much a retelling of Gift Of The Magi. It’s lovely and a mere 45 minutes and you can watch it right here right now.

Maybe you should watch all of these today, particularly if you’re feeling all Christmas curmudgeon or if you’re exhausted from all your warring on Christmas. That can really take a toll, you know, and maybe it is time for some self-care, some you time, some Muppet time.

BREAKING! UPDATE! SPOILER ALERT! Intrepid commenter twostepcub reminds us that we failed to include 1979’s special with the late great John Denver. Sadly, the YouTube version of this one isn’t the highest quality, but you should probably also too watch this one today because it is wonderful. How could it not be?

Anyone who doesn’t shed a tear at the end of the ’87 Christmas Special when Jim himself does the dishes because he “liked it when they (The Muppets) had a good time.”
