Deakins pulls over, and has a rather amusing reaction to Pritchett’s dead body next to him, and how this is the first time he’s killed somebody up close. At any rate, it makes for a good trailer clip.

Deakins: I don’t know what the big deal is, I really don’t.

After this, he has Kelly shut off everything electronic. As Hale and Terry climb out of the river to safety, the nuke goes off underground, causing a huge crater where the mine used to be.

The shockwave causes an EMP, which takes out the power in the base as well as in the chopper, which naturally crashes and blows up real good. You know, like everything else in this movie.

We get a few minutes of panic from the authorities, which just serves to confirm that it was an underground blast, and no radiation seeped out… as far as they know. But I’d guess the park will be closed for a while.
