Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong And Norah Jones Sound Unexpectedly Great Covering The Everly Brothers

From the Department of This Really Shouldn’t Work But Oh My God it Works, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has teamed up with Norah Jones to do an Everly Brothers cover album.

In an instance of something so weird it actually makes perfect sense, the two musicians recently convened in NYC to bang out their own version of the Everly Brothers’ album Songs Our Daddy Taught Us. The original album, released in 1958, was itself a kind of covers record: a collection of traditional country songs that were previously made famous by the likes of Gene Autry and Tex Ritter.

Before you worry, Billie Joe doesn’t sound like Billie Joe at all. He’s got that slight Everly twang down pat, and he doesn’t overshadow Jones at all. And Jones, after being queen of Light Jazz to Fall Asleep To, broke out of that and really shone on last year’s “Little Broken Hearts.” She sounds positively lovely here.

The full album is out November 25, 2013, but you can pre-order it over at Amazon.
