Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (1952) (part 3 of 4)

Later that night, Duke and Nona are walking through the jungle. Apparently some jealousy is brewing between Dr. Zabor and Duke, but he just laughs it off. Duke isn’t all too keen about the idea of living on the island, however, but he says he’ll do it “til I can think of something better.” Well, way to make a girl feel safe and secure.

Back at the “castle”, Sammy heads for bed (wearing an actual night cap) after having a stupid conversation with himself. Down in the lab, Ramona gets out of her cage again and walks around. She sneaks right past Dr. Zabor, who’s currently sitting alone in a chair and having a nightcap of his own as he downs shots of hard liquor. I guess being a Mad Scientist isn’t quite as stress-free as you might think.

“Ah, pull deh stringk your own damn self!”

Ramona sneaks upstairs and hops in Sammy’s bed. Komikally, Sammy thinks it’s Duke at first, but this doesn’t really explain why he actually starts to feel the chimp up, asking, “what’s with the angora patch?” [?] Then there’s the expected goofy reaction shot where Sammy realizes he’s in bed with a chimp.

He immediately leads Ramona back downstairs to the lab. Dr. Zabor sees the two of them and gets suspicious, and starts chewing Sammy out. Sammy yells back at him, explaining what happened, and somehow feeling the need to add, “The whole thing’s very ambiguous!” Oh, you don’t have to tell us that, Sammy. Anyway, Dr. Zabor yells at him to just put her back in her cage.
