Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (1952) (part 2 of 4)
That night, all the tribespeople dance for Duke and Sammy. And I’m talking big, choreographed numbers here. And by the way, did you know that some guys in the jungle wear angora? The men do their routine first, and then the white “island girls” come in and dance their island dance.
During this, Sammy charmingly refers to Nona as “meat and potatoes”. It seems he’s getting a bit jealous, because Nona is immediately hitting it off with Duke. So Nona says she has a sister, and Sammy is beside himself. Can you guess where this is headed? Yes, Nona’s “baby sister” Saloma turns out to be a huge fat girl. And of course, she immediately hangs all over Sammy, much to his horror.
He’s trying to escape her but not having much luck. Saloma grabs him by the shirt and he actually slips out of it to get away from her. Yeesh, a shirtless Sammy Petrillo. Thanks for that image, guys.
Sammy stumbles into the dancers still doing their routine, making a total mockery of the whole thing. The music instantly stops, and a still shirtless Sammy finds himself standing in front of everyone, so he starts doing his routine. Well, there’s gratitude for you.
