I haven’t seen the movie, but you nailed the reason I didn’t bother: knowing it ignored the alien elephant in the room!

I gave up on X-Files part way through season six. I guess after the huge events that went down in the movie I felt the conspiracy being able to cover it all up rang hollow to me. I mean, there was a giant circular hole in the arctic! How do you cover up physical evidence like that?! And Scully losing another key piece of evidence? I just didn’t buy it. Key evidence had been lost before, I think she would have come up with a more clever way to insure the bee not be lost, like swapping bees or something. Then when the fake bee disappeared it would have been clear-cut evidence there was a conspiracy. It just felt like Mulder and Scully had to be written as stoooopid in order for the show to go on.

And Mulder was able to recover all those files? Really? Seriously?!
