VIDEO: Wishmaster (1997)

We’re sorry...

This video is no longer available due to the shutdown of Blip.tv.

In this episode from the Blood Splattered Archives, the Horror Guru takes on Wishmaster, a Wes Craven Presents joint that hearkens back to the glory days of Hellraiser, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Candyman. Oh, and did we mention this film stars Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Tony Todd, Angus Scrimm, Reggie Bannister and Ted Raimi?

i really like this movie and the sequel was pretty good too though i didn’t like the re-design of the makeup. and Parts 3 and 4 are just terrible pieces of crap with a Wishmaster that looks like a nerd.

Agreed 100% on all accounts. =)

It’s okay, Guru, there’s nothing wrong with nostalgia talking–I’ll take this with its 1997-ness than have it originally made today only to get lost in the mass cgi fold. And dude, this movie had me at Angus Scrimm and Reggie Bannister. Plus the first mention of the word “djinn” since I saw The Outing.

Totally agreed. I worry how horrible Wishmaster would look with today’s CG-Sploitation technology. I like it’s shitty 90’s charm, a lot. XD

I don’t even like horror very much and yet I love your videos. I remember when this movie came out I totally dismissed it but it actually looks like a lot of fun and I might have to give it a watch

Rock on! Feel free to come back and scold me if you don’t like it. =P

oh i must see this movie again. maybe i am unaware of other films but i think only wishmaster and nightmare n elm street deal with reality warping slashers which lead to very imaginitive kills and special effects. i wish there was more like wishmaster with it deaths just willed into being. like in the prologue where that one palace resident was forced out of his own skin and that women who became wood. and i think there was a scene where the djinn heard a guy wish his lawyer to screw himself so said lawyer’s spine contorts in such away that he gets sodomized by himself. you dont get that sort of surreal humor and visuals with zombies and revenents.

    • The Horror Guru

You definitely get much crazier kills out of this and franchises like Nightmare. Totally agree. =)

If you like that sort of thing, you might like this. No gore, but dark humor of surreal body distortion.

I wonder what would have happened if she said, “I wish that you do not grant this wish”.

    • The Horror Guru

      Paradox!

      • danbreunig

She can also keep getting her way indefinitely by using her third wish to get three more wishes, then that third wish for three more wishes, then that third wish for three more wishes, then that wish for three more wishes, then……..

Actually, there was an episode of Extreme Ghostbusters that came out around the same time that was about an evil demon that granted wishes that backfired on the wishmaker. It was invulnerable to their proton packs, until one of the GBs said” I wish that you did not grant my wish”, which caused the wish backfire on the demon instead of the wishmaker and weakened him enough to be captured. I’m guessing that doing the same thing in this film would either do nothing but piss the demon off, or it would make his power backfire on him.
