The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010)
on Monday, February 4, 2013
Nicolas Cage is the sorcerer and Jay Baruchel is the apprentice in a feature-length adaptation of that one segment from Fantasia. Watch as Disney screws up a franchise based on something that only lasts a few minutes. That never always happens!
Tron Legacy (2010)
“Since 1982, fans had been asking for a sequel to Tron. Well, the studio dithered, and did nothing about that for the longest time. Then they decided that since so many other movie franchises had done so well picking up the pieces a decade or two later, well, why couldn’t they? After all, how hard could it be?”The Return of the King (1980)
“His approach is cut short as he sees the reason a swarm of Orcs hasn’t gotten around to curb-stomping him into oblivion: they’re all dead. Naturally, we get a monologue explaining this, and I think even the five year olds watching at this point are probably going, ‘Move it along, goddammit, I got shit to do today!’”Jack the Giant Slayer / Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)
“For whatever reason, Alice in Wonderland was a massive hit, so massive that ever since then making darker, action fantasy versions classic fairy tales have been in high demand in the industry. In the last two weeks, two such films have come out, so we’re going to take a look at them both.”Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013)
“Because every screenwriter knows that if you can’t give your protagonist a personality, you can always give him a destiny.”Disney’s next revisionist villain: Ursula
“The details we’re given about Ursula’s history are begging to be explored. Who was she before she was banished? And what did she do to be banished?”The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013)
“If the source novel didn’t start out as Twilight fanfic, I’ll drop dead of shock.”
