The Black Hole (1979)
on Monday, December 3, 2012
We made it, folks! Sofie's final Requested Review! Unfortunately, we end things on something of a dud. She reviews the mostly forgotten The Black Hole, Disney's first attempt at trying to cash in on the success of Star Wars. Also, stay tuned for an appearance by Mr. Mendo and a special announcement about Sofie's show!
Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Sofie goes down the rabbit hole for Alice in Wonderland, another visually impressive yet incoherent mess from Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, and Mia Wasikowska as Alice. Watch and wonder how a movie this mediocre made a billion damn dollars.Doctor Who “The Time of the Doctor”
“Matt Smith’s goodbye is about the Doctor facing his own doom and destiny with a raised head.”Pacific Rim (2013)
“I’ve been looking forward to Pacific Rim ever since it was first announced. An American take on Japanese kaiju movies and mecha sci-fi directed by monster lover Guillermo del Toro? I was sold three times over before a single piece of advertising was released.”The problem with Big Hero 6...
“It was a bit frustrating to see a supporting cast of instantly lovable and visually dynamic characters end up as little more than set dressing.”Days of Future Past might be the best X-Men movie yet
“This movie left me wanting more, rather than leaving me frustrated, which is high praise for a film that deliberately screws over its own continuity this much.”Transformers (2007)
Sofie takes on Michael Bay and his big, dumb, loud first entry in the Transformers series, starring Shia LaBeouf as a high school kid who befriends alien robots and, even more unbelievably, dates Megan Fox. While not as horrible as the two sequels, it's still full of enough obnoxious humor (an Autobot pisses on John Turturro's head! On camera!) to make it a chore to sit through.
