Godzilla 1985 (1984)
on Sunday, March 25, 2012
For the 30th anniversary of his debut, Godzilla returns to the big screen in 1984's Godzilla 1985 (not a misprint) also known as The Return of Godzilla and Godzilla 1985: The Legend is Reborn. It picks up 30 years after the original and ignores all the movies in between, and they once again inserted Raymond Burr into the American version, reprising his role as Steve Martin!
In this episode of Terror Obscura: Jason Voorhees, sentient steel shutters, and a misunderstanding of the word "taint" abound! What does any of that have to do with Godzilla? Heck if Fear Fan knows.
Godzilla (2014) is everything Godzilla fans could want
“When it comes to Hollywood making a Godzilla movie, this is about the best possible outcome anyone could have hoped for.”Godzilla (2014): A movie with an awesome Godzilla cameo
“Generally speaking, an audience should never be this aware of the filmmaking tricks of the trade being deployed to artificially amp up suspense.”The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)
“We expect Benjamin to have interesting things happen to him, but no, he’s just a boring man with an odd condition.”Starship Troopers (1997): Satire of bad movies, or just bad satire?
“If the movie was truly meant to be satire, as many of its fans insist, it’s poorly done satire, because there’s very little in the way of actual wit or insight that might distinguish this film from other entries in the genre.”Stop saying ‘free speech’ only applies to the government
“Free speech is not only about what the government can or can’t do. The right to free speech means it’s wrong for any entity, governmental or not, to try to silence you.”Marvel’s cinematic villain problem
“When people complain about adaptations of a work, it’s because they like the things that end up getting lost in translation, and the classic superhero/supervillain dynamic is one of those things that’s gotten lost in a lot of these Marvel flicks.”
