Franchise Evolution: King Kong
Posted Mar 7 2012 by Ed Harris

“It’s less ‘It was beauty killed the beast’ and more ‘It was a bunch of helicopters with .50 caliber machine guns and itchy trigger fingers killed the beast.’”

Never Say Never Again (1983)
Mr. Mendo's Hack Attack Episode #8
Posted Jul 26 2011 by Michael A. Novelli

“Mr. Mendo once again explores the world of subpar James Bond films with Never Say Never Again, featuring Sean Connery returning to the role of 007 after a 12 year absence. In the movie, Blofeld threatens to detonate two stolen nuclear warheads unless SPECTRE’s demands are met, which eventually leads to a massive underwater battle. And if that synopsis sounds familiar, it’s because Never Say Never Again was legally required to have the exact same plot as Thunderball.”

The Ladykillers (2004)
Britannia Rules? Episode #3
Posted Nov 24 2010 by Richard Murphy

“It’s time once again for another episode of The Special Relationship, where Richard Murphy looks at American movie remakes that don’t quite live up to their British source material.

In this episode, Richard watches the Ealing Studios 1955 British comedy The Ladykillers, starring Alec Guinness, Herbert Lom, and Peter Sellers, and stacks it up against the Coen Brothers’ remake starring Tom Hanks and Marlon Wayans! In the process, he plays the Kevin Bacon game and connects Marlon Wayans to Alec Guinness in six degrees or less. And you can play along at home!”

Get Carter (2000)
Britannia Rules? Episode #2
Posted Sep 26 2010 by Richard Murphy

In the second episode of “The Special Relationship”, Richard Murphy compares and contrasts the 1971 British gangster film Get Carter starring Michael Caine with the Razzie-nominated Get Carter remake from 2000 starring Sylvester Stallone, Mickey Rourke, Rachael Leigh Cook, and Alan Cumming! Richard explains why one film is far superior to the other (guess which one!) and why the remake might have been vastly improved with the addition of a Bette Midler montage.

The Avengers (1998)
Britannia Rules? Episode #1
Posted Aug 30 2010 by Richard Murphy

By special request of the Agony Booth, Richard is kicking off a new series-within-the-series titled “The Special Relationship”, wherein he looks at American movie remakes that don’t quite live up to their British source material, starting with a comparison of the ‘60s British series The Avengers, and the Razzie-winning 1998 American remake starring Ralph Fiennes, Uma Thurman, and Sean Connery!

The Women (2008)
Posted Feb 15 2009 by LaShawn Wanak

"The director got together Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Debra Messing, Eva Mendes, Jada Pinkett Smith—you know, actresses who are good at staring into the camera with weepy, reddened eyes, and somehow still look good doing it. And then she... Eh, why should I tell you how she ruined the movie, when I could show you, with a Screencap Recap?"

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)

For the role of an alien incapable of feeling emotions, they cast the Hollywood actor least capable of expressing them.

Godzilla (1998)
Posted Feb 17 2003 by Albert

Part of the Rogue Reviewers Godzilla vs. Rogues Roundtable!

"Godzilla is a giant mutant lizard that enjoys nights on the town and long walks in the rain. He's very, very interested in starting a family. And ladies, not only is he single, but he's the only one of his species."
