Stephen Colbert Warns: ISIS Is In Ur Twitter, Stealin' Ur #Hashtags (Video)
Stephen Colbert got a little manic Tuesday night, bringing us the terrifying news about the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS): they aren’t just taking over Iraq; they’re also dominating social media, building support on Twitter, Facebook, even Instagram.
Oh, they’re huge on Instagram. They’ve got one filter to make all the photos seem like they’re from the 1970s, and another that makes all their ideas seem like they’re from the 7th Century.
They’ve also been piggybacking their messages on trending Twitter hashtags, including — really — #WorldCup2014. Warns Colbert, “Watch for that! Do not click on any links from ISIS that say, ‘check out this amazing header,’ because it’s not soccer!”
And then he fiddled with his ear. Happily, he did not consume the results of his exploratory drilling.
And because it exists, here’s a second clip for you: Stephen explores New York’s recently-passed ban on people taking selfies with tigers, which apparently is a thing. Really? This has a “can’t possibly be real” feel to it, but if Stephen Colbert is telling us about it, it must be real. (We checked. It is.)
