Favourite fictional robot? Marvin the Paranoid Android! (“The first ten million years were the worst … the second ten million years, they were the worst too.”)

There actually is a movie called Strings about marionettes, but it has nothing to with Pinocchio

Good review. I thought that other reviewer was just a little too harsh in regards to this movie. I could see his points, but I felt getting angry because celebrities and actors were hired instead of professional voice actors was a bit much. But hey, he’s passionate about animation, I can’t fault him for loving something that much. I do have to agree, though, that a little Robin Williams goes a long, long, lonnnnnnnng way.

Favorite fictional robot? Ah, man, who to choose? I’m going to have to go with the robot from Lost In Space. The LIS movie isn’t very good, but bringing back actor Bob May to do the voice was an awesome touch.

Yeah, there was a lot I wasn’t crazy about his review despite liking most of his other stuff. In all fairness, I wasn’t trying to make the review a response to that video alone. I’ve always wanted to review this film for a while. I just thought addressing that elephant in the room, you know?

I may be biased, but I think Jim Broadbent is the best thing about this movie. That’s partially because Jim Broadbent is easily my favorite actor, but I do think he did a great job (with Mel Brooks being a close second).

Funny anecdote about Greg Kinnear in this movie: Ever since I saw it, I had no idea that it was him. For some reason I was *convinced* that Julian McMahon, and it wasn’t until I saw the video by the other reviewer that I realized it was him. Similarly, I always thought that Greg Kinnear had played Bradley Uppercrust III in “An Extremely Goofy Movie” (I thought this ever since I was a kid, when Greg Kinnear was one of my favorite actors) and only discovered a few months ago that he didn’t! Weird, right?

Anyway, as for favorite robot, I’m going to have to go with WALL-E and EVE. If there was ever a case for voice actors being eligible for Oscars, that would definitely be it. I honestly think that Ben Burtt and Elissa Knight have performances every bit as impressive as Heath Ledger did. Those to me are the best performances of 2008, and some of the best performances in film, period.

That’s understandable! I thought Jim Broadbent did a good job as the villain, and even tapped into an Ursula/Harvey Firestein persona that was pretty engaging. Surprising that I didn’t discuss that too much in the video 😛

To be fair, the entire video could have been dedicated to discussing his performance and I would have thought it could have used more Broadbent.
