VIDEO: Cartoon Palooza’s Oscar Prediction Thing: Best Animated Feature 2012

We’re sorry...

This video is no longer available due to the shutdown of Blip.tv.

It’s a brand new show, Cartoon Palooza, where your host Joey Tedesco, a resident of the lovely Garden State, watches and criticizes cartoons, including everything from comic books to animated movies!

For his first episode, Joey judges this year’s Oscar nominees for Best Animated Feature. Well, three out of five, anyway. Out of Rango, Kung Fu Panda 2, and Chico & Rita,  find out which one he considers to be the Runner Up (good, but clearly won’t win the award), the Wild Card (the closest contender), and the grand prize winner!

Rango was overrated, more funny/peculiar than funny/ha-ha. Kung Fu Panda 2 is the best of the three nominated films I’ve seen (I’d love to see Chico & Rita and A Cat In Paris, but both aren’t playing ANYWHERE). I’m also pleased Cars 2 got shafted, as Pixar needed a good slap-down for that.

It was such a bummer when I asked the distributor of “a cat in Paris” if there was going to be a screening anytime soon. Said it wouldn’t happen until the summer, WAY after the Oscar season!

You might be able to find Chico and Rita online which is how I caught the film.

Sound could use a little work, but otherwise a solid debut! Welcome to the team, sir!

      Thanks, mendo! XD

Hey and welcome to the booth! Nice solid start with interesting subject matters.

Man, Oscars as a thing doesn’t seem to be very popular among nerds these times. Good you at least a glad for the nominations.

I will how-ever say, my money is on Rango not Kungfu Panda. not because it’s a better movie, but because I think it fits better in what the old Oscar voters look for.

Thank you! The oscars have always been a personal favorite for me (the first year I saw it was when James Cameron swept the show with Titanic). I will say that if Rango wins, it would be cool to see Gore Verbinski get an oscar 🙂

  • The visuals in Rango were absolutely stunning. I’ve never seen a movie that actually make me feel thirsty just watching it before.

But it’s also one of those movies that gives me a headache watching it. The first half of the movie was a little too chaotic and all over the place. Once the story finally kicked in it was pretty cool, but it sort of felt like they wasted the first half dicking around.

Anyway, nice review. I look forward to more.

(Hah hah… “pick corn.” That joke won’t make any sense to anyone who doesn’t live in New Jersey.)

Thank you! I’m glad you liked it 🙂

I quite literally looked outside my window at the giant field of harvested corn when I mentioned that xD… the good ol’ garden state!

Not bad. Good work you’ve done here.
By the way, who are you and how did you come here?

    • Tedzey71

Glad you asked. There was an opening and I applied. Sent my work to the administrators and they liked it! Glad you liked it as well 🙂

I live in Hoboken N.J., and the only corn i pick is the ones on my feet. I don’t get it. Either that or I’m picking my feet in Poughkeepsie. Fun review, if you get a chance watch and review an animated film from the early 80’s produced by hack of hack’s George Lucas, “Twice Upon a Time” a great film that deserves a lot of recognition.

    • Tedzey71

YES! That would be awesome! I was considering buying the film on amazon in VHS. The film hasn’t even been released on DVD yet! I remember watching it once on cartoon network eons ago.

Just a heads up there are two versions out there(more or less) I have both versions, one is the version that was playing on HBO mid 80’s and is the more mature version then there’s the home video version that uses alternate audio tracks that makes it more family accessible. I have the HBO version on a Beta tape so I’m unable to watch it, but its A HOOT! Far better then the Home “Family” version.

Sorry your pick lost, Tedsey. Still, glad to have you with us…

    • Tedzey71

It’s all good! To be fair, I had a feeling it would win; but I thought Kung Fu Panda 2 was the better film.
