VIDEO: Kangaroo Jack (2003)

We’re sorry...

This video is no longer available due to the shutdown of Blip.tv.

Il Neige watches the painfully dumb comedy Kangaroo Jack, featuring Jerry O’Connell, Christopher Walken, and a kangaroo that has about as much to do with the plot as the title suggests: Jack.

This movie looked stupid even when I was a child

I’m still wondering to this very day how the hell this movie got a PG rating.

The lack of profanity and explicit violence might have had something to do with it. Now that I think of it, movies like ET, the Goonies and Monster House get away with their fair share of perverse humor, but it’s presented in a way that understands preteen kids better, whereas this movie just figured that penis and butt jokes were the easiest ways to get laughs.

I can’t speak for Monster House, but weren’t ET and The Goonies released before there was a PG-13 rating? I remember Liam of Cheap Arse Film Review fame pointing out how much more awesome PG movies were back in those days because of the level of violence. Heck, you even had partial nudity sometimes.

Which is one of the reasons why the original Clash of The Titans is still one of my favorite movies of all time…

ET yes, the Goonies no. The rating was introduced in ’84. ET was released in ’82 and the Goonies in ’85, though The Goonies pushes it way more, so I’m sure ET would have still made the cut for PG, even if the greatest line in the whole movie gets censored on TV.

Man, in a better movie, the plot twist at the end (i.e., what the money was for) would be AMAZING. Hell, in general, the basic idea is fine.

    • Thomas Stockel

Agreed. I actually thought that twist at the end was pretty clever. I mean, I thought it was stupid that you would send two guys to deliver a measly fifty grand to the other side of the planet, but once you discover why it makes all the sense in the world.

    “…featuring Jerry O’Connell.”
That was about all I needed to know to avoid this pile.

      Na, come on.
He was not bad in Sliders… to be honest, that is the only thing, he was ever good in, but never the less… just the actor doesn’t say anything about how the movie is.

      • Cristiona

You just admitted the only good thing he was in was a TV show. If an actor can be good enough that you would see a movie just because he’s in it, then the reverse should hold true.

        • CaptainCalvinCat

Should is the operative word here, @twitter-15316882:disqus .

Fact is – just because a certain actor is in the movie, the movie doesn’t get objectively magically better.

For example: I watched Sumuru and Swarmed, because I am a big Stargate Fan and Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson) was in it. On an objective level, both movies were awful.

And anyway, he was in Stand By Me, so he WAS in a good movie.
