VIDEO: Double Feature: Fanboy & Chum Chum / Invader Zim

We’re sorry...

Joey reviews both a guilty pleasure and a popular show he can’t get into, in this Nicktoon double feature! First up is the guilty pleasure: the currently airing Fanboy & Chum Chum, about two sci-fi/fantasy superfans who live in a water tower and use their imaginations to get into bizarre adventures. After the break, Joey explains why he doesn’t think much of Invader Zim, the story of an alien who disguises himself as a schoolboy, and with the help of his robot GIR, embarks on a hopeless attempt to conquer the human race.

  • You don’t worry about me liking Return of Jafar Joey because I don’t. Like Sofie, I much prefer the King of Thieves. It was just much more interesting and watchable than that lazily done first of many cash-in Disney sequels.

OK now that’s out the way, I haven’t seen either of these shows because I was a Cartoon Network kid. Sure I saw Hey Arnold, rocko’s Modern Life and CatDog but that just wasn’t my default cartoon station. Fanboy and Chum Chum reminds me a lot of Cow and Chicken and Ed Edd n Eddy in just how crazy, childish (not necessarily a bad thing) and off-the-wall it is.

I did hear a lot about Invader Zim and the main thing that did get my attention was that Richard Steven Horvitz did the voice of Zim who I think has one of the most cartoony voices I’ve ever heard, even out of the studio. But again, I never got around to seeing it. Might check it out for curiosity’s sake but it’s not high on the priorities list.

I’m sorry Joey, I just can’t completely hate Family Guy, now matter how much you and and other people seem to. Some of the jokes and set-ups are funny and clever, even if they are spur of the moment and coming from a liberal lefty loony atheist, I do see eye to eye on a lot of what is said on MacFarlane’s part. Hell, even Stone and Parker who detest FG said that they respect their fans and making people laugh and they made a complete two part episode giving that show a satirical smack in the face. I don’t like it as much as I used to, but I can’t hate it. May all the messages saying I am a fuckwit who has absolutely no taste in humour or animation come flooding towards me.

You’re entitled to your opinion on Family Guy, and I do think that an episode does have a funny moment once in a while. However it does seem like the show may just as well be in live action. If anything, “Ted” proves that and I did enjoy that movie

Sorry Joey, I haven’t watched either show so I have no opinion, but I think I might check out Fanboy and Chum Chum. I do have to be a grammar nerd and point out that you said that you could care less about Spectacular Spider-Man and My Little Pony, which means you care at least a little. You should have said you couldn’t care less.

I caught that too, but I think you know what I mean right? It was a compromise between the best take for that particular scene.

      Thanks for watching!

  • OMG! Someone has different opinions than me on the internet! Inconceivable!

Fanboy & Chum-Chum – Never seen it and, nothing against it, but it doesn’t look like my cup of tea.

Invader Zim – Agreed! Don’t get me wrong, I actually did like the show, but it just wasn’t all that great as far as I’m concerned. As for it being the “best show to ever appear on Nickelodeon” … yeah, that’s dumb and I can prove that with four words: Avatar The Last Airbender.

Also, yeah, I’m one of those people who never liked Gir.

lol, I remember them to. BTW “The Shout Factory” has done a good job getting the Beavers on DVD. Not to sure about CatDog though…
