The movie *really* glosses over Wood’s alcoholism, which is what ultimately made him impossible to work with and killed him when he was only 54. The underground gay circuit loved Glen or Glenda, and would arrange screenings of the film as early as the mid-1960s, and people like Fred Olen Ray wanted to help him out, throwing him a few bucks to pen “Beach Blanket Bloodbath”, which Wood promptly drank away. Of course, I’m glad that Burton chose to mythologize Wood, rather than tell the actual story. If he had stuck with the facts, the movie would be very, VERY depressing. We’re talking Tod Solondz meets Spike Jonze depressing. This movie is less about Wood himself, and more about the love of a craft, no matter how inept one is, using Wood as the framing device. And Martin Landau earned that Oscar!

Interesting about the alcoholism and it explains a lot.
On the other hand if they put that in the movie it would have been a lot more depressing.

Here’s a nice little depressing quote about Wood from fellow Sleazemeister A.C. Stevens: “Eddie was my friend. He was a nice guy. But the booze killed him.”

Ed Wood’s worst film isn’t half so bad as any given film made by Coleman Francis.
    That’s why there’s the Film Anti-Preservation Society!
