Castle Rock: Stephen King and JJ Abrams team up for scary new Hulu series
Castle Rock, Steven King’s fictional any-small town in Maine, which has more crazy supernatural events than Jessica Fletcher’s Cabot Cove has murders, will soon be coming to your digital screen as a Hulu series. How soon? Unfortunately, that’s still top secret, but we do know that King is teaming up with JJ Abrams for the project.
This isn’t the first time Abrams and King are working together. 11/22/63, the Hulu mini-series based on King’s time-traveling novel, also lists both King and Abrams as executive producers.
Castle Rock made its first appearance in The Dead Zone, but the unlucky community is also the setting for Cujo, The Dark Half, Needful Things, and many other novels and short stories by King. The town is referenced throughout the King-verse, including in Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, The Stand, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, and Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, where the narrator was a resident prior to his unfortunate incarceration.
Not much is known about the coming series, but the recently released awesomely creepy video name drops various King titles and characters. It features a digital map with a hotspot somewhere in Maine. Will Castle Rock be an anthology of greatest hits or new stories? Are they going to follow the lead of Fargo and True Detective to bring us season long stories, or will they offer a more traditional series with a set group of characters? Who knows? But we can hardly wait. In the meantime, enjoy the teaser below.
