Oh, god. Birds of Prey. This show should’ve been awesome. Instead… it was… calling it seriously plot deficient would be too nice.

  • Muthsarah

Wow…..the opening theme alone makes me hate this show.

No, I haven’t gotten around to the rest of the review yet. Let me heal.

    • Solkir

Didn’t think I’d have to clarify this, but the song I use for the opening credits isn’t the one from the actual show. I used that for the end credits.

      • CaptainCalvinCat

The shows original opening credits had the song “Revolution” playing – that’s right. The DVD-Version however (which I happen to own) uses a song, that some people tend to call “generic pop” – however: I like it.
        ^^

But then, I like the show, as previously stated.

      • Muthsarah

Wasn’t meant as a criticism or anything; sometimes I like watching a review of a show I knew absolutely nothing about. Music just seemed very, very strange for a legit opening theme to such a “dark” looking show, like they had no flippin’ idea what they’re doing and prolly didn’t care. But it wasn’t the real theme, so oh well.

It was from a comedy musical number on the animated show “Brave and the Bold,” I think.

          • Thomas Stockel

Correct. I miss Brave and the Bold; I didn’t appreciate it enough when it was on,

          • Muthsarah

Yeah, I was burned out already on what happened to Batman:TAS in its later seasons. It was perfect at the start (even though I didn’t start watching it until after its original run), so when they changed it, it was crap, and would always be crap, until it went back to what it was back when it was perfect. Still waiting, of course. A really, really long time.

          • Muthsarah

A show I know next-to-nothing about. S’pose I should do something about that, given all the love. Any easy way to watch it?

          • $36060516

I’ve never watched it, myself, so I don’t know… I did see the clip of that “Birds of Prey” song posted on either io9 or Jezebel, though, which is how I became familiar with it!

  • imthegoddamnbatman

Birds o Prey was about as exciting as watching Clark mope in every episode of Smallville.. Let the angry comments commence!

    • CaptainCalvinCat

Actually, I felt more entertained by THIS show than by Season 1 of Smallville – after season 3 that least got watchable. ^^

  • The_Stig

Why wasn’t this a Batgirl series starring Dina Meyer? I’d watch that.

  • Pratchettgaiman

I remember really liking this show when it aired. Then again, I was in my early teens (and I have a low bar for liking stuff too).

Also, as a current “Lost Girl” fan, it’s amusing to see a much younger Rachel Skarsten as Dina, as I’m now used to her as a badass but morally conflicted Valkyrie now.

  • drumstick00m

You are all right about this show. However, Mark Hamill as the Joker, in costume. Worth it. Maybe.

    • Solkir

Oh, that was just his voice dubbed over a stuntman

      • drumstick00m

        Well, dammit.

You didn’t mention that the guy who tries to rape Dinah was played by Aaron Paul, who went on to win a couple of Emmys for playing the co-star of the show “Breaking Bad!” Maybe you haven’t seen it…

    • Solkir

Oh shit you’re right! I thought the guy looked kinda familiar, but I figured he’d just played bit parts on other shows. That one’s on me.

      • $36060516

No problem! It was a fun review. I’ve had a copy of this series for years and never got around to watching it!

        • CaptainCalvinCat

          Want a tip, Mister_Misinformed?
I’d recommend watching it – I mean, if you already own a copy of that show? ^^

  • Richard Eriksson Hjelm

I was mildly amused by it

The fight scenes look kind of good, and the set up is interesting, but It still looks bland looking. It just doesn’t really say superheroes all that much. I mean even though it pains me to say it but Arrow (which is completely hackneyed show that basically turned Green Arrow into Nolan’s Batman in the worse possible way) feels a bit more superhero-ish more than this show, but only on the grounds that they got details right in that case, like the costumes and such. But I will say I wish this show would tell that show that its not cool for its main character to kill people, especially in the fist episode. Ah man maybe I should start a review show and vent my anger about that show. Oh well can’t wait for the rest 🙂

  • Kevin Rusley

Great rundown! The pilot really is one of the better episodes of the show (usually not a good sign). I can’t wait to watch the rest of your rundowns. BTW, I did a video of my own examining the show as a whole awhile back. Check it out if you haven’t already: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rlJxBYmg6Y
