Whole lotta first and second act (-ish) spoilers here….I haven’t seen the movie yet, but after barely a minute, I already know twenty times more about the plot, characters, and likely third act developments than I did before.

But welcome back, all the same. Gotta whole lot of reviews upcoming after Christmas?

I really enjoyed this movie, but I had more love for the characters than I did for the story. I hate to admit it, but I saw the twist coming. Disney’s gotten into the habit lately of adding huge story-changing twists in the third act of their movies, so unfortunately, I was kind of expecting this one. They lead the audience to believe so much that it’s one specific character that I almost immediately thought “Okay, it’s definitely not him.” And unfortunately, there’s really only one other character who it could possibly be.

But that aside, they still kept it thrilling, and the characters in this are tons of fun. I sincerely hope we get a TV series based on this movie, or at least a comic book, because there’s so much potential left in these characters that I’d hate to think this is all Disney is going to do with them. We’ve gotten to know Hiro and Baymax perfectly, so now let’s delve into Honey, Wasabi, GoGo, and Fred a little more. There’s tons of great stories you could tell with these six.

  • I thought this movie was on the cusp of greatness and then it fell short to be merely good. There are some gags I would have thrown in to make it a little funnier, changed the bad guy, that sort of thing. I can’t say they didn’t deliver a good movie, and it would serve as a good rock on which to build a Marvel animated universe (Slingers, Excelsior, Power Pack, and Runaways would all be good choices for step two) but I think it could have been something special on par with “ParaNorman” which I think has a much deeper story.
