Hmm, that one chapter on HIV and AIDS makes me recall that the WHO changed the definition of AIDS for African case numbering. It was the first time outside of “And the Band Played On” that I had heard of the concept of “non-HIV AIDS” at a time when the operative definition was a collapsed immune systems coupled with the presence of HIV. At that time, mid-90s, it was speculated that this new, Africa-only, definition was created to help inflate the AIDS numbers, to help scare Westerners into action and to “whitewash” the original GRID concept of AIDS in Western countries. Uncoupling HIV-infection from an AIDS diagnosis does bring some serious questions to the fore, though; chief amongst them being the efficacy of so-called anti-AIDS drugs, many of which were failed attempts at other cures that Pharma companies had already poured millions of Ducats into making/researching. I’m looking at you, AZT.

Add serious medical and scientific skepticism with ignorant politicians, and you get the President of South Africa and the abhorrent, superstitious “cures” one hears about coming from there. Bad Science, indeed…
