VIDEO: A Haunted House (2013)

Mendo reviews A Haunted House. Pretty straightforward, really. What? Not all of these intro paragraphs can be gems! Oh, wait, Mendo also debuts his new sunglasses in this video. That’s pretty noteworthy, I guess.

Blame a childhood full of Leslie Nielsen movies if you must!  ^_^

Surely, you must not be ashamed of liking old Leslie Nielsen movies!

Naked Gun 44.444 Vs Pi should be a good movie.  Hopefully OJ Simpson will be released from prison in time for the production of it!  They can cast Jason Statham as Leslie Neilsen and simply CGI in post production Leslie’s movements and physical features and splice his dialogue in nicely.

Speaking of Leslie, it is sad that the guys making these parody movies have missed a couple things that made Airplane work so well:

      1) Serious actors being funny.  Leslie Nielson, Robert Stack and Lloyd Bridges were all serious actors and action stars, and yet they were hilarious.  To my knowledge I don’t think any of the Scary Movie franchises have done the same.  That is a large part of what makes the movie work; when you see Lloyd Bridges say “I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue,” or when you see Robert Stack fight his way through the airport, that stuff is priceless.

      2) Airplane parodies one(!) movie.  The rest are original scenes they put in.  So they used the plot of one film and worked around it, rather than trying to stitch together crap from a dozen different films in the hopes that they’re Frankenstein creation would come to life.

  • Scary Movie 1 and 2 are OK to me. I saw them when I was younger and being a young immature teen at the time, I laughed a lot to those movies. Parts of those movies I can defend were the moments involving the phone call between the killer and Anna Faris’ character which is still pretty funny to me and of course Anna Faris herself. There’s just something so loveable about her and it shows why she keeps getting comedic work.

I think most of the lame, unfunny parody bits from those movies came from the fact that Seltzerberg were part of the writing staff, (Hell, they advertised Date Movie as “brought to you by 2 of the 6 writers of Scary Movie!” Riveting) that and the over-saturation of the sequels and knockoffs of those parody movies like Seltzerberg’s pollution.

As a casual viewer, I’m not very enthused to see this movie but it’s somewhat encouraging to see a parody movie with no Seltzerberg. Zucker brothers and Abraham it’s not but it’s something.

Also, Nick Swardson’s character looks a bit like Horror Guru, and that makes me smile!

Wow.  I can actually see your eyes now.

…You don’t still have the old shades, do ya? :p

Would you believe 3 years ago for my “Intro to Film” class (the very first class I attended in college), I wrote a paper about the “(blank) Movie” phenomenom and why were they got progressively worse each and every time.  It ended up be a 5 paper report dissing Setzler-Berg and I got a B-

What does this have to do with the video….absolutely nothing.  I just now started it.

    (after watching the vid)

I think what you are trying to say Mr. Mendo is that this movie (A Haunted House) felt like….a movie.  Barring a few minor things, each scene has a solid connection to the next and it feels like a story was presented.  Setlzer-Berg, on the other hand, made movies that are just glorified sketches.  Minus the characters being the same, each scene has absolutely nothing to do with each other.  Hell in Disaster Movie, there are scenes that have nothing to do with the premise or title of the film.  It just a low rent twice as long SNL show special….that’s what those are.

What brand are the shades, it’s hard to tell from my end.
