VIDEO: ELoG Awards: Best and worst of gaming 2014

It’s Roland’s third annual Best and Worst of Gaming video, with an idiosyncratic award naming convention lifted from Penny Arcade (just like Yahtzee did).

2014 Almost broke me in half!! I am not looking forward to 2015!!! I just bought a ps3 again for the first time in 9 months!!! Infamous 1 and 2 are great Games!!!

I also found 2014 underwhelming and lackluster. The only game I REAAAALLLY wanted to play was Bayonetta 2 but I couldnt justify buying a Wii U for just that one game

Although Mario 3D world and Donkey Kong also look pretty good..

I don’t know that I’d try and convince you to play another Assassin’s Creed game or anything you dread to experience. I much prefer your retrospectives and more positive videos, and not just because I find them interesting, but because you honestly seem to enjoy them more. I don’t really like the idea of watching people expose themselves to things that cause annoyance and frustration.

I’d love to see more of your Mech Warrior retrospective, I’d love to hear you talk about newer games that you did enjoy and as an example your Marathon video was wonderful to watch. It made me go back and experience those games again.

Not to say games with issues don’t need looked at and discussed (figuring out what went wrong and what could be done better is a legitimate discussion to be had), but not if doing so is killing your hobby for you. I don’t care what you look at next, I just hope it’s something that makes you happy to play games again.

yeah, those mechwarrior videos are great

    • Yes! I’m getting back into the mood. Shadow of Mordor is really good, and I’m gearing up for the next “wave” of MechWarrior.

Between bad games and games spread out over DLC, yeah, it was a bad year for gaming.

  • Wasteland 2 was a pile of shite. The world was boring and the story never felt the need to make me care about anything that happened. The whole plot is just throwbacks to the first game, whose villain makes a sudden appearance at the end to supplant the main villain up to that point, despite having no dramatic build-up at all in the game.

The combat also becomes extremely repetitive, every fight is just run into cover and click on the enemies until they fall down. Overall, a complete waste of forty(!) hours.

Yeah, Destiny is a pretty good game for what it is. It’s really nothing you haven’t already seen in Halo or Borderlands, but the story is ok and multiplayer is a blast. Probably not something you’d want to buy a new system for if that’s the only game you wanna play, though.

    • If there’s a PC version, I’ll buy it when it drops in price. There will be enough people still playing to get a taste, I think/hope.

I agree with you 100% in regards to Smash Brothers. I always liked the original the best because the characters were distinct, the level design was solid and the items weren’t overpowered. In the new ones if the levels aren’t killing you, some overpowered Pokemon descending from the heavens or some weird new super move is.

Also, what was that 2d game at the beginning of the video. That actually looked interesting.

    • Risk of Rain I believe. Pretty good game!
